2021 – 45 The Wind and Kite Festival of Villa de Leyva

In August of each year, since 1975, Villa de Leyva’s main square and other open spaces are filled with kites of different colors and styles to enjoy the winds that characterize the climate of this region. Each year contests are held in different categories where competitors of all ages have the opportunity to show their ingenuity, creativity and skills: handmade kites, giant kites, trains, acrobatic trains, synchronized flight of kites, night lights, etc… This festival has become one of the most representatives of Villa de Leyva at national and international level.

MONDAY, AUGUST 19
Vuelo libre: El Cometodromo esta abierto a todo el público.
​Todos los días habrá talleres infantiles sin costo para los niños y niñas realizados por Aldeas Infantiles.
Lugar: Antonio Ricaurte.
Vinculate a la Campaña Colombia Limpia, llevando tu material reciclado a la Carpa “Mi bella Villa Recicla”.

CONTEST CATEGORIES

• Cometa artesanal: es elaborada por quien la eleva, no se fabrica en serie y se distingue por su originalidad y excelente acabado en el arte manual. Entre sus formas pueden ser hexagonal, barrilete o pandero. tener forma hexagonal, barrilete o pandero.
• Cometa comercial: es fabricada industrialmente para ser vendida en el mercado.
• Cometa delta: de fabricación industrial o artesanal, son triangulares y se dividen en dos grupos: deltas con una quilla y deltas con dos o más quillas. Concursan simultáneamente.
• Cometa tridimensional: Son las de formas tridimensionales (papalotes) construidas con estructuras rígidas y de formas geométricas como cubos, faroles, rombos, etc.
• Cometa arte: tienen una fabricación fuera de serie, destacan por su belleza en la construcción, colorido y forma, llevan un mensaje impreso no publicitario.
• Cometa espectáculo: son cometas especiales que deben realizar durante su vuelo algún espectáculo que las haga notorias durante el tiempo de competencia.
• Cometa acrobática: Son fabricadas con materiales especiales, muy resistentes y livianos. Se utilizan para hacer ejercicios o malabares, para ésto utilizan más de dos cuerdas.
• Cometa trenes: Son más de cinco cometas en una línea incluyendo las inflables, deben ser de igual forma, estilo y tamaño, no debe haber cometa de arrastre.
• Cometa acrobática equipos: prueba en la que tres o más cometeros maniobran sus respectivas cometas simultáneamente, haciendo malabares al ritmo de una melodía.
• Cometa inflables: no poseen estructura rígida y tienen celdas en las que entra el aire para permitir su vuelo, son conocidas como parafoi o flexifoi.
• Cometa vuelvo vertical: Son las cometas que se elevan verticalmente y no poseen cola.
• Cometa vuelvo lejano: se elevan horizontalmente por la presión que ejerce el aire sobre ellas.
• Cometa vuelvo nocturno: en esta modalidad pueden participar todas las cometas, a excepción de las acrobáticas, pero deben tener luz propia para ser identificadas y calificadas, no se permiten cometas cuya cuerda sea conductor eléctrico.
• Cometa más grande- prueba reina: es para cometas que sus medidas sean superiores a las 6 m o más en cualquiera de sus lados se tiene en cuenta la estabilidad en el aire de principio a fin de la prueba para su juzgamiento.
• Cometa miniatura: esta prueba para las cometas inferiores a 15 cm en cualquiera de sus lados y que tengan estabilidad de principio a fin durante la prueba.
• Cometa de alto rendimiento: cualquier tipo de cometa, que alcanza el mayor vuelo en un lapso determinado por el jurado, el lanzamiento es dirigido en grupo o mangas con otros participantes.

HELP US WITH THE TRAFFIC CONGESTION

​If you are planning to come by car, check the road plan before entering Villa de Leyva.
Identify public parking and avoid entering the historic center with your vehicle.
The entrance of strollers to the main square will not be allowed.

NOTE: The start of the show will be subject to weather conditions.

FOR THE SAFETY OF ALL

1. As sitting on the floor prevents/blocks people from walking, during the length of the show it is not allowed.
2. Pets will not be allowed into the Plaza Mayor.
3. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
4. Remember, it will be crowded, this event is not recommended for pregnant women and elderly people with mobility problems.
5. If you are planning to come by car, check the road plan before entering Villa de Leyva, also identify public parking and avoid entering the historic center with your vehicle.
6. Strollers will not be allowed into Plaza Mayor.
7. The show will start at the scheduled time, however, is subject to the weather conditions.
8. Once Plaza Mayor reaches the capacity allowed by the security agencies, no more people will be allowed to enter.
9. ​There will be zones exclusives for the use of pedestrians, please, do not park or drive on them.
